Endodontics (Root Canal Treatment)

At Wimbledon Dental Wellness, we are able to carry out root canal treatments for patients who have infected or painful teeth.

A root canal treatment can become necessary if a tooth experiences severe infection, advanced decay or because of injury or trauma. We carry out a root canal treatment to save a tooth from removal and will always do everything we can to prevent this from happening.

During a root canal treatment we will:

• Remove damage at the root of the tooth as well as any damaged parts of the tooth
• Completely disinfect the tooth being treated
• Fill in the canal chambers to prevent further infection
• Seal the tooth back up again to help prevent bacteria from getting in

At this point, we will then restore the tooth to full function by placing either a filling or a crown to cover and restore the tooth. We will talk through both options with you, but the decision will ultimately depend on how much damage is present at the start of the treatment.

Many patients may not even know that they need a root canal treatment until we diagnose it for them during a routine dental check-up. This is because an infection can spread slowly and without any signs or symptoms over a period of time.
